Dhamaar
It is an ancient type of song. It is sung in Dhamar Taal. Most of the Radha-Krishna and Gopis are described in this, so some people also call it Hori. Holi and hori differ. Holi is a different type of song. Therefore, if the song Dhamar is not called Hori, it is called Dhamar.
Singing Style
In it, like Dhrupad, non-tom’s alap and laykari show. In it, dugun, tigun, chaugun, etc. are shown by the words of most songs. Meend and Gamak are used a lot in this. Group of Swaras like Khatka and Taan are forbidden. Singers also sing sargam in it but it is different from sargam of khayal.
Seriousness is maintained in each part of Dhrupad and Dhamar. There is a tradition of playing Pakhawaj with Dhamar. Sometimes the work is done with tabla if there is no pakhavaj.
धमार
यह गीत का एक प्राचीन प्रकार है। इसे धमार ताल मे गाया जाता है। इसमें अधिकतर राधा-कृष्ण और गोपियों की होली का वर्णन मिलता है, अतः कुछ लोग इसे होरी भी कहते हैं। होली और होरी मे फ़र्क होता है। होली गीत का एक अलग प्रकार है। इसलिए धमार गीत को होरी ना कहकर इसे धमार ही कहा जाए तो सही है।
गायन शैली
इसमें ध्रुपद के जैसा ही नों-तोम का अलाप और लयकारी दिखाते हैं। इसमें दुगुन, तिगुन, चौगुन आदि लयकारियाँ अधिकतर गीतों के शब्दों द्वारा दिखाते हैं। इसमें मीड और गमक का बहुत प्रयोग होता है। इसमें खटका और तान के जैसा स्वर समूह वर्जित है। गानेवाले लोग इसमें सरगम भी गाते हैं किंतु यह ख्याल के सरगम से अलग होता है।
ध्रुपद और धमार के प्रत्येक अंग में गंभीरता रखी जाती है। धमार के साथ पखावज बजाने की परंपरा है। कभी कभी पखावज ना रहने पर तबले से भी काम चला लिया जाता है।
